Old Parks News Brief

28th Edition, October 2017

Doug Neilson

Cricket section - Chairperson

New Cricket Season Officially Started!

The cricket season started off on a good note with 2 wins from our Presidents and Sunday 1 teams. Premier league side will also be underway this weekend 7 Oct.

We have a new committee in place and I welcome Birgit Lategan, Allan Dudgeon and Brian Bain on to the committee. Birgit Lategan is our new treasurer and we are hoping, with her financial background that she will capably manage our financial affairs. In the short period she has been with the club she had done a sterling job. Allan Dudgeon has been appointed the captain of the Premier League for the new cricket season!!

Junior cricket registration day was, again a very successful with many new young cricket members and families joining the Club!!

I plead with all members of the club to support our cricket fund-raiser. The prize is a fabulous weekend at Pecanwood for 8 persons including 2 rounds of golf. All cricketers have raffle sheets and i ask you to please buy a ticket (R50.00).

I wish all cricketers a happy and successful cricket season
Doug Neilson

To all our new members

We would like to welcome you to the Old Parktonian Sports Club.

Here's a little background about the Club ;
The Club is owned by the Old Parktonian Association, an association of teachers, old boys and old girls of Parktown Boys High School and Parktown High School for Girls, whose objectives we support whilst providing sporting and function facilities to the community.  Given the Club’s heritage, our vision, Stars Arise, is linked to the logos of the girls and boys’ schools.  Our mission is to make a healthy lifestyle and sporting activities available to everyone regardless of age, ability and social status, whilst creating a social environment for members, visitors and scholars.

Apart from our busy sporting calendar, we will be offering lots of exciting activities and events for our members, including pub quizzes, joker jackpots draw, comedy nights and much more! Please support all club related events.

If your child has joined the Club, we invite you to join as a parent member for a nominal fee to benefit from some of the value added benefits described below. We also encourage our members to use the Club as their way of giving back to the community, whether as a leader in your sports team, coach, committee member, or in any other way that might help us to preserve this wonderful facility.  The Club is run largely by volunteers, and it is only with all our members’ support that we can achieve our mission and vision!

Other value-added benefits of membership include:

  • 40% discount on field and room hire at the Club, which includes a bar service, where you can conveniently and cost effectively host functions from birthday celebrations/graduation parties to corporate events
  • Free use of the tennis courts
  • Free access to the grounds and social areas
  • Big screen sporting events and other Club events

In addition, information about the exciting events and activities at the Club is available from:

We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our Club events, or on the field of play, and wish you a wonderful time in all your activities at the Club.   If you have any questions, feel free to call me on 011 789 3274.
Ms Mantombi Radebe (Admin & Membership Manager)

Our newly renovated function room

The lonely manager's house next to the Bottom Field received some TLC renovations and is now a brand new function venue.  This 45 square meter facility is ideal for meetings, a variety of small group fitness classes and smaller parties.  It opens up onto a secluded lawn with beautiful views of the sports fields.  Contact the office if you want a guided tour or more information.
