About the Old Parktonian Association

Are you a past scholar, teacher of Parktown Girls / Boys High Schools?

Then you qualify to become a member of the Parktonian Association, association of Old Girls of Parktown Girls High School and Old Boys of Parktown High School, contributing towards the prosperity of our beloved schools and their heritage, including the Old Parks Sports Club.

Membership of the Association is just R220 for 2019/2020. The membership funds that you contribute are utilized towards management of the Association, including to host Old Girl and Old Boy events, and towards the development of past and present scholars of the schools and their heritage, which includes the Old Parks Sports Club.

Membership of the Association entitles you to use the facilities at the Old Parks Sports Club, receipt of the Sports Club’s quartely newsletters and invitations to the Sports Club’s many social events, such as pub quizzes, lunches, dinners, wine tasting, etc. In addition, in your first year as an Old Girl or Old Boy your Sports Club membership fees are charged and you only required to pay the sports section fees of any section you join (view section fees under Joining the club).

The Old Parktonian Association also provides a bursary each year to both Parktown Boys’ and Parktown Girls’ High Schools. Membership of the Association is vital for this continued assistance to the schools! We urge you to join.

In addition to the above the Association also hosts the following annual events:

The Old Parktonian Association Formies day

Formies day was established by the Old Parktonian Association to introduce the various sports and club facilities offered by the Old Parks Sports Club. The day is open to the form1 (grade 8) learners of both Parktown Boys and Parktown Girls.  This annual sports day will give you a chance to have fun and try out our sports  (5km fun run, Mixed indoor soccer, foot over (volley ball style using chest, head, knees, feet etc , to knock the ball over a net) & Barefoot lawn bowls in the past proved to be a big favourite!

The Old Parktonian Association Matric Lunch

This is another popular event for the Grade 12 learners held in October each year.  We spoil you with one last chance to socialize with your friends before you take on the world (and exams).  You will be served lunch under a marquee tent with your Head Boy and Head Girl as well as the principals of both schools delivering their final message to you.  This invitation is also extended to your parents.

Take the opportunity to look at our wonderful facilities available to you to further your sporting career, and maintain contact with both the schools and fellow past pupils.

Securing Parktonian Future

From its modest beginnings in the early 1920’s, Parktown Boys’ High has gradually evolved a unique spirit and tradition which is evident in its academic, cultural and sporting achievements.   However, since the Department of Education has been compelled to deploy its funds on a corrective basis, to redress the imbalances of the Apartheid era, it has become more difficult to maintain these historically high standards.

Self funding has therefore become imperative for the schools as it is now responsible for all costs associated with equipment for academic and extra-mural activities as well as the up-keep of the school grounds. The function of the Foundation is now critical to assist with providing the resources to cope with these increased financial pressures.

Parktonian Community

The Parktonian Community can indeed be proud of what has been accomplished in the first decade of the 21st century.  Parktonian Community is extremely important as it helps maintain and provide opportunities for the special quality of tradition and spirit that exists at the school.

Very generous donors have ensured that a very fine school is bequeath to succeeding generations, irrespective of their race, ethnicity or creed.

This loyal network of dedicated Old Boys, Teachers, Parents and Supporters of Parktown Boys High generously give their time, expertise and financial support to ensure the success of the Foundation’s fundraising projects and events.

The Foundation assumes the role of Community Builder seeking to encourage a growing interaction between scholars of the past present and future.  It has a database of Old Boys contact information dating back to the Schools beginning in 1923.
